Courageous Conversations About Race Workshop Series

April 2, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 7:00 pm on Monday, repeating until April 23, 2018

Are you one of the countless people asking, what can I do? Are you looking to deepen your understanding about what race, racism, whiteness and white supremacy is and how it plays out in you? In our country and culture? Are you looking for brave space and community? Are you open to what you might not already know? Are you looking for resources to move yourself further? Are you wanting to practice talking about it?

In this series, based on the book Courageous Conversations About Race: A Field Guide for Achieving Equity in Schools by Glenn E. Singleton, whether you own the book or not, come to practice your ability to “engage, sustain and deepen” in Courageous Conversations About Race. Come as you are on your journey, in order to uncover and dismantle what is within.

Facilitated by  Maren Miller.

A note from Maren: “I believe it is important to say that as a white woman, I feel it is my call to work with other white people, specifically white women. However, I do know how valuable and important multiple perspectives are. This is a space for white people to do their work. However, people of color are welcome to join and bear witness to that work.   Please reach out with questions/concerns.

As a white, woman teacher veteran, Glenn Singleton’s’, Courageous Conversations About Race Protocol has been a grounding tool (for me) when trying to keep a critical race lens and equity on the table in all conversations. Although I am not a member of *Pacific Education Group or an Affiliate, it is with my experience and frame that I wish to hold space for and create community with, those who are wanting and willing to look within. In order to stand in my power and be of greater service to my family, community and world as a racial justice leader. Because we need each other (and more white people) in this work.”

WHEN: 4 part series begins April 2nd
COST: $100 – after expenses (space and teacher pay) proceeds will be donated to supporting Leslie Herod and Stephany Rose Spaulding. https://www.awesomelyluvvie.com/black-women-in-politics
